Continuum is a showcasing platform dedicated to present artists from different backgrounds and varying artistic disciplines to the international audience of Rotterdam. They are doing their first edition “mystique electronique” in New Grounds! Prepare to have your senses triggered with performances from the Jansouz Collective, Kems Kriol and NovaN.

Jansouz Collective
The Jansouz Collective is inspired by their visit to Mont Blanc, where the combination of the sun and the snow took them along a spiritual journey. They invite you along the same journey through their music during Continuum, where they explore how meaningful that journey is for our nature. Their music is described as a combination of modular and modal music, which gives them the freedom to create something unique and personal.

Kems Kriol
Kems Kriol is a Rotterdam-based DJ, producer and multi-instrumentalist who, among other things, will perform his 2021 EP: Equanimity. His music is described as Cape Verdean and Colombian styles with a contemporary electronic approach. Equanimity is a live electronic and musical performance combined with a narrative from inequality to (self)realization. The development to spiritual maturity takes place in Kems Kriol’s home in Rotterdam and takes the audience through the tensions of mental and modern demons. The live performance and musical direction are inspired by the artist’s intimate experiences in finding spiritual identity, fatherhood and intergenerational heritage from the austere urban plains of the Netherlands.

NovaN
NovaN performs hypnotic beats, psychedelic atmospheres and on-the-spot improvisation. The elements of acid, techno, psytrance and trip-hop are merged into a musical journey of deep frequencies. Being originally a jazz pianist himself, NovaN’s music collides the monotonous, groove-centric vibes of the electronic music scene with the concept of musical spontaneity known from jazz. All bass-lines, beats and atmospheres are created on-the-spot with live looping, keeping the vibe of the dancefloor in focus.

As an addition to these live performances, there will also be a display of Kems Kriol’s audiovisual work, in collaboration with REVIVE, and several prints from the young, talented and New York-based photographer Tyler Chan.
